OUR STORY

Urban Fresh Produce is an Urban Farming operation newly located at 1757 Woodroffe Avenue. Urban Fresh was founded by Chadwick Lewis in 2021 whom is originally from Saint Lucia. He has been farming since 2015 gaining his start with his great uncle on the family estate producing over 25 different types of crops from Cocoa, Bananas, Peppers, Pineapples and more. Chadwick is also a graduate of the Algonquin College Horticulture Program where he now assists during the fall season. He has a passion for cultivating the land and in turn providing others with organic food options.

With a growing Family, the farm has become something that everyone is grateful to be apart of. From our eldest Son Rasheed being responsible for watering seedlings to our youngest Maleek helping to monitor our day to day, we are raising our children with a strong sense of caring for the Earth and all People who visit our Land that we get to share with the wider community.

We look forward to having you visit us during our 2025 season and invite you to reach out with any questions you may have to ensure we are working together long term to make Urban Fresh Organics Farm a regular stop on your way home from week to week.

WHO WE ARE

We are a Black-owned Family farm business dedicated to sustainable food production aiming to improving food security within our community. We accomplish the above mentioned in the following ways:

1. Produce high quality food and food products to supply to the community.

2. Empower persons to grow their own food by supplying high quality organic seedling and consulting services.

3. Work with you to create the next generation of farmers which in turn will improve food security on a regional, national and international level.

We’ve been in community for the past 4 years at @justfoodottawa and extend appreciation for the many opportunities we’ve had to get our footing while on the land.

The farming journey has been one mixed with knowing the possibilities while figuring out how to get things done in holistic way. It hasn’t been an easy road and some have had to face the brunt of us learning on the fly. Thank you to all the folks who held patience and still do as we continue to navigate the waters.

In season 5, we ask for your support to help us start fresh on our very own Farm land. Thank you for coming out to our first kitchen table talk hosted in the barn at Urban Fresh Produce new farm location!

We invited Phil Mount from Flat Earth Farm, Geneviève from @ncc_ccn and Thane from @thrivingcreek.farm to have a talk around land access that turned into something beyond any of us knew we needed.

Thank you to our new farm friend from @beetbox_coop who also joined us as we spoke on the current state of farming and the young farmers who see and know the potential in this lifestyle. This opportunity to live with the land. To honour the Earth ,the Sun , Water and all the elements that help us grow and eat great food while holding space for communities to thrive !
It really was beyond words and we appreciate the support from @nfuontario as they lead innovative conversations to keep farming alive for generations to come.

Without Farmers, we do not eat! Please honour those relationships within your neighborhood and support your local markets whenever possible. It means more than we can ever quantify into words when you stop in and get your veggies from us directly!

This week is a busy week several projects are happening simultaneously. Electrical upgrades, greenhouse is going to be built, cold storage is going to be set up, chicken coop is being properly winterized, and fields are going to be prep for next season. This journey has been demanding and gruelling but all praises be to the creator and many thanks to all who have supported in anyway our farming friends, our non-farm community friends, our customers thanks to the @ncc_ccn for allowing to access this land, thanks to @justfoodottawa for the first start. As we continue to on this journey we hope you all will come with us. Thank you thank you thank you.

Peace of mind goes hand in hand with being one with the land. It’s like an autoimmune response to slow down and focus on the special task at hand.
When you plant a seed or replant a seedling, patience is the next step.
Patience pays off and it has done this for us in a major way this year.

The greenhouse is very colourful and alive and we still have lovely flowers and herbs left for you as well as some other odds and ends.
